Ananga Ranga Famous Positions

The book Ananga Ranga was written around the 16th century by Kalyana Malla. It was made to be a manual about sex which would advice husbands on how to behave and give pleasure to their wives to avoid being tempted to cheat due to monotony.

In some way the Ananga Ranga is based on the Kama Sutra, although it’s no the same because the Kama Sutra also gives important insights about the Indian’s social customs while the Ananga Ranga is entirely devoted to sex, especially to sex positions.

Many times the Ananga Ranga is referred as a part of the original Kama Sutra, or treated as a part of the book but under the eye of the truth it was written thousands of years later than its famous counterpart.

Many well described sex positions on the Ananga Ranga also come up on the Kama Sutra, some of them with different names. These are the most common Ananga Ranga sex positions:

The Winged Eros: This pose set the man as a dominating part, as he’ll feel completely pleased with his partner riding on top of him while leaning on his hands and feet. This position is a celebration to Eros, god of love and son of goddess Aphrodite.

The Refined position: This one enables greater penetration. The woman lies on her back with legs widely open on both sides of the man’s waist. It’ll be sexier if the man starts controlling penetration by holding on his partner’s hips. This position is also shown in the Kama Sutra.

Kama’s Wheel: for Indian people, sex has always been linked to religion; it’s got a spiritual connotation, especially at the time both books were written, the Ananga Ranga and the Kama Sutra. That is why in this sex position both partners sit with legs outstretched facing each other, since this one is meant for both pleasure and meditation.
